Painting An RWB - Porsche Dunkel Olive Metallic [PTS]

The time has come; May is around the corner, and our RWB build for this year is moving in full force. First stop, painting the car a new, modern & exciting colour through ABE Bodyworks.

After much consideration, our decided colour for the build was this stunning new Porsche PTS (Paint-To-Sample) colour: Porsche Dunkel Olive Metallic. Follow along in our latest YouTube video, from the paint sample comparisons, to disassembly, sanding, priming and, of course, the final beautiful paint job!

I hope you enjoyed the whole process, and let me know what you think of the final paint choice! Now, of course, we are moving onto the complete re-fit of the interior, so be sure to stay in the loop for that.

Here is a closer look at each stage of our process through ABE Bodyworks.

1. Disassembly

The first step was a complete teardown. We stripped the car down to its bare shell—removing the interior, bumpers, windows, door handles, engine, and more.

This ensured a flawless, top-to-bottom paint job, covering everything from the door jambs to the engine bay.

2. Surface Prep & Primer

With the car prepped for paint, we presented two final color options to our client: Mercedes' Emerald Green Metallic and Porsche's PTS Dunkel Olive Green. After careful consideration, Dunkel Olive Green was the winner.

Before priming, we addressed every imperfection in the bodywork, cleaning, sanding and repairing for a smooth, flawless surface. The red primer applied to the car is a crucial step in the process. Red primer helps highlight any imperfections, making them easier to spot and correct before applying the final topcoat. This extra step ensures the smoothest, most precise finish possible.

3. Paint & Clear Coat

Finally, and most exciting—the paint. After priming, the shell was coated in the stunning Dunkel Olive Green, followed by multiple coats of high-gloss clear coat which really made it pop.

Now that the paint is complete, we’re shifting focus to the fully custom interior. Stay tuned over the next couple of months leading up to May as we bring this RWB build to life.

Have a great weekend!
