Why You NEED An Immobilizer
Normally, my emails are on a brighter note, filled with crazy projects and exciting news; however, today, I need to address a matter that affects us all. From 2015 to now, we've seen a 300 per cent surge in vehicle theft in the Greater Toronto Area alone. More than 30 cars are stolen a day.
I recently had a firsthand experience that drove home the urgency of protecting your vehicle. Just this Wednesday night, I had installed an electronic immobilizer on my own vehicle and used it for the first time. Little did I know that just the next morning, my neighbour knocked on my door, devastated, reporting their Jeep had been stolen. If I hadn't installed my immobilizer the night before, I might have had a much different week. Some vehicles are more prone to being stolen, including Range Rovers, Land Rovers, Lexus, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, but at the end of the day, any car is susceptible if wanted badly enough.
You might be aware of some ways to prevent car theft, such as keeping your car in a garage, using a steering wheel lock, faraday pouches, or placing an Apple AirTag in your vehicle. While these options work in their own way as deterrents, none of them guarantee the safety of your vehicle. Keeping your car in a garage is a luxury not everyone can afford. Steering wheel locks are effective at deterring thieves who don't have a power drill. Given that any determined thief is likely to carry such a tool, a steering wheel lock is not a perfect anti-theft device. Faraday pouches can block relay attacks, but if thieves find their way inside your vehicle, they can still drive off. Apple AirTags are great for tracking your stolen car, but we believe in fixing the issue before it gets to that point.
That's why, at ABE, we strongly recommend an immobilizer anti theft system. Of all the auto theft prevention devices available, we've found this immobilizer anti theft system to be the most secure and reliable solution to ensure your vehicle stays where it belongs – in your driveway. When 'locked,' it disables your vehicle's push start/stop button. Even if a thief has a key or a copy of your key, the vehicle simply won't start. Thieves have no way of instinctively knowing which part of the car is disabled, making it nearly impossible for them to drive off. The longer it takes them to figure it out, the higher the chance they will abandon the attempt. Compared to an RFID kit, the immobilizer still allows your key to function as normal: remote start / keyless entry, etc.
For your peace of mind and your vehicle's safety, get in touch with us to install your engine immobilizer. Sleep well at night during this auto theft crisis, knowing your vehicle isn't able to go anywhere without your authorization. Don't let your car be the next statistic.
Stay Safe Out There!
